Izzet is a color for the creatives who always want to be doing something with their life, even if it doesn’t seem practical in the near term. If your mind is always buzzing with the possibilities and find yourself restless you may belong in Izzet as you are hungry for the most out of everything in your life.

I would argue that there IS a balance to be found in Red and Blue. When you discard the foolish notion that emotions are random and not worth listening to. Emotion is not some random thing that happens to a person, it is in fact, the basest parts of their mind communicating things about the stimulus around them. When you LISTEN and consider what your emotions are telling you, you get to decide what to do about it. Rather than shutting all emotion out, feel it, consider it and allow it to guide you to something you may have not considered otherwise. And in the inverse, Red can accept Blue when Red realises that Mastery, perfection of a craft is the greatest form of expression. that when you are at the peak of your skill, you have the capacity to make ANYTHING happen, including your most heartfelt emotions and impulses.

To give an example, consider a player of a video game who has become so masterful that they enter a flow-state when they play, a state in which the act of moving is a matter of impulse and muscle memory rather than any mental effort. In that state, they can fully express their personality and what brings them joy.

So, you’re just gunna explain my entire life….why was this mad inspiring? Soothed my existential dread as I dance between these realms eternally. Its a struggle…but…its also beautifully human.

I always have just felt Izzet, both in gameplay and ideology. I’ve always felt that tension between contemplation and impulse. Love the explorations of colors, keep it up!

For my part, when I think of what red/blue is, I think of jazz. I'm no expert on the genre, but I've always admired it. There's a structure to it all, but it's a structure that leaves room for improvisation, and depending on the composition, the structure itself might look chaotic from the outside.

I'll be honest. This really resonated with me in a conflicting way. It's got me thinking about some things that I been struggling with in a new light.

Watching this in order to get a better grasp of myself, and find a solution to balance these aspects of myself, cause overall I always find myself to be the biggest opposing force in my life

This made me reflect on myself more than a decade of therapy. Honestly this is probably one of the best video essays I’ve ever seen

I always thought "everybody thinks it's izzet", but good lord, you're literally talking about everything that keeps me awake, stagnant and in motion at the same time

What I get from this combination is that it is flexible. They are whimsical but consider the effects of rash actions on others. In short they have foresight and they often have one color questioning the other in determining what is the best path forward. Red or the heart tells the mind or blue that perfection doesn't truly exist in this realm nor should one attempt to achieve it and that in the strive of self improvement one shouldn't cast away a portion of themselves. In return blue tells red to look forward and that all reactions/impulses are not good. In short the combination is empathy backed by reason, not in turmoil but in a new perspective in one reminding the other of simple truths.

On a different matter I do have a favor to ask. While going through the new brother's war storyline I kept imagining 4 pairs of digimon and pokemon coming to Dominaria to help fight the Phyrexians. Each has digi-eggs (digi-metals) and fossils divided as evenly as possible. Can you guys help me figure out what colors these factions and individuals would be and how these factions would develop?

There is an aspect to that balance between logic and emotion or the heart and the mind that I don’t think has been explored and that is the possibility that the two can RELY on each other to strengthen both the heart and the mind BEYOND what was formerly possible. Not balance: but emulsification.

I’ve heard it described this way “bridle all your passions, that ye may be filled with love” and this might be best seen in those who take their passions and turn them into tools to express love for their families: through artistic expressions of the worth of your child, or the scientific discoveries made to heal a sibling, or the day to day creativity of the craftsperson in building a home with their spouse.

In all these things, some expression of love was achieved that the mind without the heart could not conceptualize and the heart without the mind could not express. In both cases, the mind and the heart is stretched in new and interesting ways.

I wonder if we’ll see this expression of Izzet in Magic someday. That sure would be beautiful.

As always, phenomenal video!

I’ve been taking that color personality test pretty often, like every few months. At first I got temur and then Simic, and now this last time I got Izzet. Which is interesting to me because I haven’t ever been super interested in Izzet as a color to play just because it’s so spellslinger heavy but also cause that’s interesting to see that shift, and too see that blue is at the core. Izzet definitely resonates with me in terms of the philosophy cause the idea of Whats the *Right* option vs the option I *like* it’s minor but that’s a good example of the duality there

The first deck of magic cards I ever bought was one of the Izzet precons back during the original Ravnica block. It completely changed how I saw Magic, and I played that cute little spellslinger deck constantly.

Now I'm a professional artist, doing commissions to make a living. So yeah, I'd say I can definitely feel this particular color blend strongly most days.

I'd say that these colors pair very well. Blue seeks knowledge, and some subjects are seen as forbidden in society. But red seeks freedom to live and do as it pleases. So, together, you have a combination that seeks the freedom to explore whatever subject they want. This combination can take on other forms. Artist creativity, mischievous impulses, so on and so forth.

one thing i would like to add, is that when you mention the white color presence to balance blue and red, i would say that green would also be capable of balancing both, after all what is logic but a natural hability of humans? and what are emotions but natural mechanisms of our minds? the divide between logic and feeling is a social construct, our toughts will always be influenced by our emotions, for it is our emotions that define the workings of our brains, the great example of this is the fact that substances can have a definite effect on the way we think and feel, logic and emotion do not exist on their own, they are a part of us much like our hearts and our veins, or maybe senses like our sight and our tact.

Izzet always resonated with me. When thinking about this video I got the idea of Izzet also representing the study and understanding of emotion, finding logic in the seeming chaos.
The part in the video about wanting to enjoy the present but also looking towards the future I really really feel.
Great work.

Wow this is impressive! I chose this combination way back at the day I decided to start playing MTG... the blue + red color combination is visually most appealing to me among all available combinations.
And then I learned about the philosophy of these two colors. Together, they make my favorite color: purple! To me, blue and red represents the unlocking of the inner true potential when heart and mind are in union. It's so cool that the lore actually matches my idea of this combination. I didn't expect it to be so deep though!

It literally blew my mind and heart the moment I realized how much this represents my character... blue and red is my life! :D
