I Got The BEST Lego Train

Lego used to make trains that were run by being plugged straight into a wall rather than running on batteries like they do now. This is by far the best Lego train that there is.

Remember buying this set in the early 2000s. The sound of the train set running litterally made me cry nostalgia tears!!! :D

I found this set in 2021 at a garage sale for $50.00. The train itself was never built still in original poly bags. Each train car had its own bag with a picture of that particular build on the bag. The only drawback was the original small cars and truck were missing. And I couldn’t test it out for one of the curved tracks was missing. But after building the train I developed builders remorse because it was such an old set.😂lol

8:52 Probably for if you want to build a bigger train but do not need more electrical components.

This was my first LEGO trainset as a child in 1999, still have it. And lots of other 9 volt trains. Funny how you are so excited opening the box, almost like myself when I got this trainset on my 7th birthday.

I don’t like the battery powered trains, feels like we’re going back in time when there was 12 volt trains and 4, 5 volt battery trains. I am also more fan of 90s design.

Had a laugh when you said ‘90s instructions are so hard to follow’ 😂 the vehicle has instructions of 2 pages… now a simple City theme vehicle has a 30 page book… also funny how you got excited about the sunroof. It’s a cool piece but very common in the 80s and 90s.

Was hard to watch you struggle with the hogwards express. I don’t think it was the weight on the motor, look at the 4561 locomotive really light weighted and easely pulling two long cars. In the video you can clearly see the big wheels of the steamlocomotive are not turning, causing a lot of friction. The Hogwards Express is just a really bad design in my opinion. First why don’t they just used the normal magnets for coupling? They work great sinds 1980! Second the passengercars of the real Hogwards Express have 4 axels with bogeys. On the sharp curves from LEGO that works better then two axels fixed, which cause friction on curves. It works better and would be more realistic. Third, AFOLs have made really realistic English steamlocomotives even in 6 stud wide. And the proffesional LEGO designers came up with this???

Okay enough complaining, In had fun watching your video and I subscribed

you can just buy copper tape and tape over modern rails to make them electric, used to do that as a kid, works perfectly

I miss the train theme so bad. I have no clue why LEGO is not reviving it...the latest Orient Express was a meh of a set. It baffles me as to why we have not seen an entire train theme again.

I got this exact train set for Christmas when I was in elementary school. Definitely the best "Santa" gift I ever got.

The issue your Hogwarts Express is having isnt weight. Did you flip the lock on the Hogwarts Express? The train has a lock mechanism that prevents the front most wheels from turning freely when the lock is in the down position. I can see its down so the train isn't in "free mode". Try flipping the lock into free mode (lift it up.) If it still doesn't work it's because the wheels on the HE engine has no traction. but this is fixable using O bands from a hardware store (bring a wheel with you for size comparison for the right one to fit like a glove) then use it on the track .i have this HE and motorizing it was easy but that lock the set makes you build prevents the wheels from turning left and right

I remember getting that set when i was a little kid, along with the switch tracks and cross track. Nowadays the pieces had split into the dusty collection. Still have everything, though; motor, speed dial, adapter, metal tracks. As for the question of battery vs 9V, since i never used battery, i say 9V, and yes, no worry about batteries and just simply plug into a wall (unless you experience a power outage). Those chrome pieces, i miss when lego made those.

I think the problem with the Hogwarts Express is not the weight, as the 9V motor is heavy enough: It's the technic axles connecting the wheels of the locomotive. I removed them with my train and it runs so much smoother.

Also bear in mind that the original HE waggons from the set you own need to be slightly modified for some curves, bc the 3L axle is too short for the needed distance between waggons. They do touch in S-curves and switch points and derail!

9V is actually really cool, but the main reason I think people prefer RC over 9V is that with powered tracks, you can reverse the track, it is expensive, and all the motors will run together at some time, that's why people prefer RC too because any model train fans out there know about DCC, and the Lego train RC series shows that very well. But if you can find and afford one, I would personally recommend the LEGO 12V system, it's awesome!

I had a similar system but with a different train from the early 2000s, set 4511. The sound of the train driving gave me major nostalgia

Damn, I have this train, x-crossing, train station and manual points, but never knew it's worth so much these days... That's crazy

I had the Lego set 7725 when I was a child. Loved it and had a lot of fun with it. It ran in 12 volts and had powered rails in the middle.

I wish lego trains were still like acctual model trains, nothing wrong with battery powered lego trains but the old 9 volt ones feel more authentic

A very cheap fix is to take a Pencil Eraser and rub the track and the metal wheels to give it more traction.
Use to do that with my Lionel train set as a kid back in the 60's.

14:00 There is definitely an issue with the wagons, maybe with their wheels or with the primitive couplings between them. Why not use the classic magnetic couplings instead, which were so common for the 12v and the 9v system till about 2010? You are only damaging the costly 9v train motor if it must work so hard with just two little wagons.

I don’t understand why LEGO went away from 9V. Still my favorite.
