billions of years ago before earth, mars, and other rocky planets, Jupiter was in likely the rocky planets orbit, rocky planets were forming but random gravity pulled Jupiter towards the asteroid belt (before the asteroid belt was formed) and destroyed that’s how Jupiter is now in its orbit is is close to the rocky planets, the rocky planets caught by Jupiter’s gravity when it was moving most of them went into the sun or crash into Jupiters Roche limit, the debris left then made the asteroid belt, another theory is that they were just there.
