Part of the CUGH 2021 Virtual Conference in March 2021
Satellite Organizer: AFREHealth

Nursing and midwifery is at the heart of healthcare in Africa! Nurses and midwives provide direct patient care and are the vital link to the healthcare system in Africa. Nurses and midwives provide healthcare for the restoration, maintenance and promotion of healthy human beings. They provide this health care from before life to after death.

The 21st century that this year started it’s second decade, has been filled with rapid almost breakneck changes which have greatly impacted global health. Global health has thus been thrust into the limelight with nurses and midwives who form the bulk of the health workforce still not taking their rightful place at decision – making tables.

Nursing and midwifery leadership is critical in shaping the global health agenda. Africa MUST NOT be left behind!

This session will analyze the importance of nursing and midwifery leadership and how it contributes to global health. We will listen to nurses and midwives in Africa, hear what they are doing to improve global health and what lessons we can learn from this.

We expect to come away from this stimulating interview and subsequent discussions with the following:

1. A communique on Advanced Nursing Practice for Africa

2. Tangible nursing and midwifery collaborations between the global north and the global south

3. Identification of key global decision- making tables where nurses and midwives MUST lobby for inclusion

Nursing and midwifery leadership holds the key to transforming global health.
