Profound Changes in our Jet Streams

All of us alive today are either privileged or cursed to bear witness to profound changes in our planetary climate system.

Join me here as I brainstorm on how our fractured, wavier, slower jet streams no longer just circumvent the planet as they have for eons but instead essentially fill the geographical space in the Arctic region with whirling vortices, acting as an enormous feedback to equalize heat between the Arctic and mid-latitudes. Huge temperature rises, with concurrent water vapour rises in the far north are spreading any normalcy in our global weather patterns.

Thank you Paul. I look forward to every video you make.

Thank you Paul - someone telling the truth and explaining to us all what it really means for this planet! Your words are so important at this time - we need to understand the significance of the changes we are undergoing.

For people who are not afraid of death from the effects of global warming, I would have to agree that we are living in exciting times to see the exciting effects of global warming in our lifetime. O brave new world that has such global warming in it. The tragedies from global warming will probably be more exciting than any shakespeare tragedy play.

thank you for this explanation. for me it ties in really well with an earlier video you made that went back to basics explaining the global movement of air from the high and low temps which create the high & low pressure zones. i guess that's a lousey description. but i feel like i can grasp this because of other videos you've made where you really break it down for us non-scientists!

In the last 12 months, global temperature has been about 1/2 Celsius above the 1981 to 2010 average. However, the ocean region north of the Arctic Circle has over the last 12 months been about 2 1/2 Celsius above the 1981 to 2010 average. One can therefore reasonably declare that the Arctic Ocean has warmed 5 times as fast as the rest of the world, since 2 1/2 Celsius is 5 times as big as 1/2 Celsius.

This is yet another fine video: thank you. But gosh, they are not "our jet streams."

Thanks Paul for your superb analytical insight!  I've definitely noticed many of the jet stream changes you've been talking about for quite some time!   Ever wonder what the effect is of the huge amount of war ordinance that's been used over the last 20 years or so ?  I recently read that just the campaign against so called ISIS dropped many more bombs (hundreds of thousands) than in the Vietnam war!  This must also have a very negative effect on global warming as well!

Very important change in arctic environment .. does not stay in the arctic/ vis a` vis the antarctic feeds back is a response .. not a reaction... the climate finds it's own equilibrium and we observe

There are a couple of things about the jet stream and planetary climate that people really need to get a grasp on IF they want to understand the 'impacts of climate change'.

I often read about how people don't 'feel it' so they don't believe it. Thing is, EVERY part of this planet has been impacted by the changes (i.e. disruption) in the jet stream. ONE thing the jet stream did for 1, 000s of years is give this planet a stable and relatively predictable climate regime (especially since they did not have weather people back then ;-). This allowed for the rise of mankind to today's preeminence on our planet's ecology. Our economic/social systems are based on those climatological consistencies that no longer exist. The strains on the human fabric are becoming much more evident through climate disruption and the associated civil unrest. I am beginning to see denialists as part of the human condition that sees its demise but does not want to confront it - denial. I would like to think, and will continue to deceive myself, that there is something we can do knowing all the while, generally speaking, money is more important to people than any other thing I can think of. Money is our false god.

Great question, in any case ... what energy dynamics are driving the changes in the jet stream(s) ... :-) One question perhaps being ... what;s the effect of solar input?

low solar activity, increases cosmic rays, it's about the Sun. just go back further into the records please.

new sub. hope to review your channel and leave positive feedback and constructive criticism. Been looking for a thought leader like you on You Tube to fight the good fight for truth in Climate Science. Hope that's you!

DEAR PROFESSOR. WILL THERE BE MORE RAIN WITH THE NEW ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS ? WILL THERE BE MORE WIND AS WELL AS A EXPANSION OF HURRICANE SEASON AS WELL AS MORE INTENSE HURRICANES ? WILL THERE BE A RAPID SEA LEVEL RISE AND I WORRY WITH ALL THAT FRESH WATER DUMPED IN THE OCEAN. A DRAMATIC CHANGE IN THE OCEANS PH. PLEASE TELL ME THE OCEANS WILL NOT DIE.

Too bad this is completely opposite of what pro GW models predicted.
Guess who actually predicted this change and got it right?? It was us skeptics who believe the sun is the driver and that is exactly what happened.
