After a dismal 1986 season, the Mobil Holden Dealer Team celebrated a double victory on the streets of Wellington, New Zealand, surviving an action packed weekend with many damaged cars. Third were O’Brien and McIntyre with BMW’s 635.

Classic... i was there with a mate from school. We caught a overnight bus down from Auckland. We were 13 years old!

Probably one of the best years of Touring Cars ever. Some great races including Bathurst.

Amazing how competitive the XJS were in '87 with very little development since '84-85.

Mike Raymond along with Neil Crompton was actually working for New Zealand TV on this race as well as Channel 7 hence Channel 7 using the New Zealand commentary the NZ commentator with Mike Raymond was Tony Palmer who was also commentating on Rugby League for TVNZ at the time

This is 1986 - IN 1987 where 1st Sierra / BMW / Sierra / Nissan / Holden,
sad Wellington did not remove the bumps as that killed a few and some refused to race there so i guess thats was the downfall for Wellington race

Sensational. All these faces are frozen in time for me, Crosby walkinshaw grice Moffat fury and all the rest, and that includes the pit crews who were personalities as well. Skippy parsons looked like he'd seen a ghost after bending Larry's car Harvey and his porno sunglasses grice Clean shaven for surely the only time ever and how's the presentation at race end, that blonde looked like fair game for every driver on the podium except Moffat who turned his cheek when confronted with a kiss while brock looked like a kid in a candy shop and she looked at him like I'm yours. Just gold. And as the European assault fell to bits the mighty Vk 308 wiped the floor. So to you I extend my deepest gratitude for once again showing us what real racing used to look like.
