How these valves work behind your washing machine

There are different kinds of valves behind clothes washer machines. This video shows this particular kind of valve which although it is very easy to operate might seem a little confusing if you haven’t ever seen them before. The valve levers may not fully go in one direction or the other.

Wondering if the water is really off? Even when it is off, you will likely have some residual water in the hose as you remove it, so have a towel and bucket ready. You can turn all the water to the house off, or just at the valves behind the washer. Turning off at the valves should leave less water coming out when removing, compared to more water to work through the line if you turned off the water to the whole house.

Looking to buy or just bought a new clothes washer? This video shows how to turn the water off at the valves behind the washer. Shown is a Samsung model. The brand doesn't matter here because we're talking about the valves that are attached to the house. So all major brands like LG, GE, Whirlpool, Maytag, Kenmore, Electrolux, etc. will work.

Mine are the old brass knobs, i can get the hot water one to move, but not the cold, its stuck good, i sprayed it with wd40, still wont move, so i just shut off main water valve. Had to put in new lines before getting new machine.
