How Time is Killing my Game

Time is the greatest enemy for any game developer. Whether it be the passing trends or someone else beating you to the finish line. Of course, games like Minecraft, Dwarf Fortress, Cave Story, and Fez all went through years of long development. But is that true for games nowadays?

This might be the end for Dewdrop Dynasty, but there's still hope.

"if sacrificing my life in order to finish a little game is what it takes to be successful, I don't know that's what I want." bingo. I think this is the dilemma that most game developers face at some point in their journey.

I've never supported something on Kickstarter before, but the time has come! Dewdrop Dynasty has helped me stay motivated while making my first game, which should finally be done within the next six months, and I want to give back to you for inspiring me. Keep the hive alive! ❤️

I'm gonna donate 25 dollars to the kickstarter
I never saw this side of this studio and knowing that this game could not be finished is really sad to me
I wish you the best!

Hey Man! You have been an inspiration for me to try and make my own game and you’ve really helped me learn about game devs! I really hope it all works out for you!

This is why I'm working on my game in silence at my own pace for the gratification of mostly myself.
If I release it and people like it, cool. If not, I'm still happy because I made the game I wanted to make without the stress of anyones' expectations hovering over my shoulder.

Great video man! I can't imagine how tough and sad it is to spend a lot of time and effort into developing a big game, just to see it flop. Probably I'll know that feeling in the future of my game development journey xd. But I hope your game will do well and become successful ❤️

Bro I’ll buy it when it comes out but trying to explain this to my parents would literally be impossible. “Oh I’m paying for a chance that they’ll finish in the future…”

Goodgis, please don't give up. I've been watching your videos since the beginning, and you've inspired me so many times not to give up when I felt like I had hit rock bottom. And to the rest of Goodgis's subscribers, if all of us donate $1 then that's about $90, 800, which when combined with the 18k it already has is way more than is needed.

Time is the most valuable resource we ever had and also our biggest enemy. Learning, working and making projects take a HUGE amount of time, and when you don't have a lot of free time (most of us) then learning/doing anything becomes really painful and time-consuming. This is even more worrying hen you try to learn/do two or more things at once (I'm starting to learng Backend Web Development and wanna start with Game Development as well, but I feel really overwhelmed).

Your dedication to this project. even through trial and difficulty, is very inspiring. Don't be afraid to make some cuts if that's what's needed to get a quality product out on time (Not to mention, we live in an amazing world of patch updates and DLC). Stay awesome, and best wishes for a successful campaign.

Oh crud, I didn't even know you had a demo out with dewdrop dynasty! I'm so sorry D:

I can relate to you with time, I've been so busy with my life, that my own projects just withered away.. it's really hard to get back into it.

checking out the kickstarter now :)

I have been a supporter of this channel for a while now and I have to say you are one of my greatest inspirations. I really don't want this game to be given up on as it could definetly turn into something a lot bigger than it already is. I know how much work it takes to build things like this, and it's actually really nice to see the real work that goes behind it and the struggles behind the scenes. It's definetly something that any level of game developers can relate to. Yeah I completly understand the reason behind the kickstarter, and I think the main reason that it isn't getting funded as quickly as you hopes might be due to your audience is a lot of game developers that might even be in a similar boat, they may not have money to spare at the moment. I think if people who were really into video games saw these they would be a lot more willing to donate as they are spending something on what they truly care about rather than trying to help the developer make this amazing game. But, what is funded is still looking amazing thousands of people that may not even be into metroidvanias decided to donate to you directly so you can finish this project. If the kickstarter succeeds than that's amazing! But if it fails that doesn't mean your game isn't good enough, it just means that no one has seen it yet. And I think you can definetly grow in some more video game lovers into seeing the game by maybey making some videos suited and target towards, them, maybey on a separate account. I would say if the kickstarter doesn't make it, maybey try just finding that type of audience. It doesn't need to be this big fancy thing that costs money, but maybey just try posting videos more suited towards them that aren't super focused on the design process. And I would recommend maybey even using a new channel, and see what happens But even if no one does see it, this game is amazing, it has a an appealing design, the combat system and enemies are perfect, the story is great, all of the places have charm, and it has an amazing developer. One other thing, is from the content you have put out so far it might just be a little early for a kickstarter, every game shines at a different point in development, maybey sometime in the future as the game comes along, you can put another kickstarter out and see how big the audience is then. Anyways great devlog as always and I really hope you continue Dewdrop Dynasty.
