Honestly... it's such a well built car that it justifies the price. If you get the chance to read Clarkson's fairly recent article on one he used for an upcoming Grand Tour special, he noted that after the shooting had wrapped he was so impressed with how the car coped with what they threw at it, that he went out and bought one. He also spoke with some engineers to ask about why it was so robust, and that's because JLR subjected the F-Type to many of the same durability tests the Land Rover's go through. This also explains why it's heavier.
