When it comes to the Miss America pageant, we're used to seeing contestants who dance, sing or play an instrument. But this year, you'll want to keep an eye on Miss Virginia. Biochemist Camille Schrier was crowned Miss Virginia at the end of June thanks in part to her impressive demonstration in the talent portion of the program. Sporting a lab coat, she blew away the competition with a colorful science experiment showing the catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. "Science really is all around us," she told the crowd to cheers. #InsideEdition

Forget about the dancing, the woman is literally t-posing in the thumbnail.

It might not be the most amazing science demonstration, but it's definitely something big and noticable and quick. They don't have a ton of time on stage. I think she did great

I wish you guys would realize that it’s not about the difficulty of the experiment. The experiment was interesting enough and something different to what the judges always see🙄 I think it was pretty creative and it was meant to be simple.

All the salty comments - she said it's targeted towards kids, to show that science is fun. I am sure as a professional biochemist, she's had much much more training than elephant toothpaste. Plenty of school kids possess the talents of other contestants who chose to sing and dance and i don't see nobody picking that up. it's a pageant stage not a conference. She's made a smart choice, less is more, and it did achieve the impact she intended to achieve. It's about the powerful message she's sending, not the actual technicality of the experiment!

I thought it said, “How Miss.Virginia lost her crown thanks to science.”

For those of you asking why she 'didn't do something more difficult'...First of all, the point was to make herself stand out from everyone else (which she did, and she WON). Secondly, some of the more complex reactions take more time to set up and to actually see a reaction happen than she probably had on stage. These more complicated experiments also typically have more toxic/ hazardous chemicals that would have taken way too long to set up before her act and clean up before the next talent came on stage.

though the experiment seems pretty simple and easy, it’s the message that she intended to send is for a really good cause.

She said it might be a little different. But I saw Miss America talent competition and she did the exact same thing on the video.

Regardless, she won the whole thing. Congrats to her

I think it is unique and creative. I don’t understand why everyone is being so hating.

The talent is not the experiment. The talent is public speaking and making science accessible, fun and interesting to children. Being an ambassador of science.

Oh she should totally win Miss America. It would be so great for girls to see that talent doesn’t have to be artsy and feminine, it can be having a knack for science or math.

Thought it will be something more interesting or challenging.. 😐

Now I don't know if it's worst to even mention it.. 😐
