As an American English speaking person, I have naturally always looked at ASCII as the "standard". It was helpful to hear this explained from an international point of view which I do not share. Great tutorial! Looking forward to the next few in this series. Thanks for producing these.

a well made video from the past now it's 2022 and i'm going through these new videos trying to understand unicode and ascii but instead of that i kinda understood why this world is going backward

why couldn't they use say 2 bytes for saying which type of encoding (say [00][00] for ascii, [00][01] for greek) and just use 7/8-bit to represent a character in that encoding scheme. That would save more space and much less work to change everything to UTF-8.(and changing the whole format of each character scheme). A file would then just need to specify which encoding scheme it is using if not ascii. (instead of wasting bits for each character using non-ascii character to represent, how many bytes it needs)

Past is past but just wanted your opinion.
