Cinema Verite and Direct Cinema | FILM FRIDAY Ep. 3 // In today's episode, I talk about cinema verite and direct cinema - two forms of observational documentary style. I find these terms a bit confusing so I wanted to make this to clarify for others! Both styles involve light equipment, hand held cameras, etc.

I liked your video. I think you may have mixed up a couple of things, though. The cinema verite movement was started (for lack of a better term) by Jean Rouch and direct cinema was started by PA Penebaker. CV was of French origins, and DC was American. Other than that, you have the technical differences between CV and DC right on.

I think ur points have something wrong or confused.
1. Jean Rouch definitely is representative of Cinema Verite, although he developed direct cinema, most of his films have characteristics of cinema verite, and his national context is French, but the direct cinema was generated in America.
2. the key point of Cinema Verite and Direct Cinema is intervention, did the director intervene the film directly?
Cinema verite - Direct intervene Example: Chronique d'un été
Direct cinema - Without intervention Example: primary 1960
3. Direct cinema has a major style called FLY-ON-THE-WALL, they just like a fly on the wall and observe others, but Verite interacts with people who in the film.
