Bud Powell Lick | Jazz Piano: Short Practice Ideas

This week's short practice idea! Try to learn this Bud Powell lick from his famous recording of his original tune Celia. This was the line that Bud played during the solo break at the end of the first head, going into the solo section. You can work out the fingering in the key of Bb or try and transpose it through different keys. Working out the fingering is a good challenge.

I love this. My step dad, Tommy Satterwhite played a lot of Bud Powell and others. He was a monster alto, tenor and bari sax player in the Jax. Fla.area, Disney, etc.
