Charles Messier's "anti-list' of objects in space has become iconic in the world of astronomy. We'll making videos about each object - but first here's an introduction to the catalogue itself.

How exciting! I love Messier's objects. With my home made dobsonian telescope I've seen about 30 so far.

People repeatedly say that Messier wasn't interested in these objects, but if you read his descriptions he aesthetically appreciated them. He even had a top 10 list! He called globular clusters M2, M3, M5, M10, M13, M22, M62, M79, the Orion Nebula and the Andromeda Galaxy, 'beautiful'
