Did you know that the "impressively" named FA-50 is actually a TRAINER Jet Aircraft in the South Korean airforce? It is meant to be a "familiarization / Training aircraft for pilots wanting to transition to the more capable American designed F-16 Falcon.
Oddly enough, South Korea STILL has more than 100 older F-5 Tiger 2s in it's inventory (once upon a time, the Philippines also had F-5A Freedom fighters; an older version of the F-5 tiger 2, but was unable to maintain them due to rampant government corruption). So, South Korea, for some reason, CHOSE to KEEP their older Tiger 2s, and instead sell newer TRAINER JETS to the Philippines. Could this mean that South Korea, for some reason considers the older Tiger 2 to be MORE EFFECTIVE as a combat aircraft than their brand new FA-50?

These "new" Philippine jet fighters are SMALL. I can imagine this is why these fighters in the video seem OVERBURDENED with external fuel tanks rather than air-to-air ordnance and munitions.
I also get the feeling that currently, the three jet fighters being touted in the video are ALL of the jet fighters that the Philippines has. Originally, these aircraft from South Korea were suppose to be 12 in all on order.
So, where are the rest? Did 'Dirty" Duterte cancel the rest of the order and pocket the money PERSONALLY? I would not be surprised if that were true.
As for WHY they are escorting an ageing B-52 and not at least a B-1 Lancer ... if part of the purpose of the exercise was to highlight Philippine-American joint capability, it seems to instead show that our country's "NEW" jet fighters, thanks to their being "pregnant" with external fuel tanks are 1. barely able to keep up with the B-52, and 2. they probably don't have the capability to engage in air-to-air refueling from an American tanker aircraft. Otherwise, why "bloat" them with drag inducing external, underwing fuel tanks (drop tanks)?
