500 E & RS2 are both mindblowing cars.

I think that's the German 'Mittelstand' mindset even in such large companies. If it was here in the U.S, Porsche would be history by now.

In the 70's I found a summer job at a VW and Porsche dealership for the summer, as a car jockey. They asked me if I was interested to work in the parts department since I had taken a year of German in college and they had a lot of problems reading all the Porsche documentation in German, for the older models. I became a Porsche "Specialist". I knew more than the salesmen and managers about the brand. I remember when the 928 came out. Engine in the front and transmission in the back.

I love that type of relationship between Businesses. The product coming out of this, is always amazing.

My 1993 Seat Ibiza had a 1.2 System Porsche engine and it was fantastic!

And porsche now is consistantly rated one of the best places to work for within the car industry.

Do your homework. The 500 E had a significantly wider track than the standard models. The production line wasn't fitting that. DB had the choice to remake the whole production line or outsource the assembling, which was by far cheaper. Porsche was small and flexible enough to do that. No sportscar credibility or something like that.
One of the main businesses of Porsche besides selling sports cars is the developing department in Weissach. They do mainly developing work for other manufacturers. Others are Harley Davidson, Lada, Seat and more. Intentionally, not for beeing desperate.

Porsche did many things in 80s and 90s. For example they helped with design of late Soviet Ladas, like 2108/09

No mention of Seat using "System Porsche" engines during the 80s? Ranging from a 1.2 with 62hp to a 1.7 with 107 hp and even a mighty 1.5 turbo with a monstrous 108 horsepower!

Apparently Seat had to pay Porsche 7 D-Mark per car sold to use the Porsche branding, on top of what they already paid Porsche for developing those engines.

Now, this is truly awesome just because your competitors doesn't mean you can't work together.❤❤❤

Porsche “allowed” them to use the branding. Lol yeah. That’s how that deal went down.

I heard that the 500E was too wide for the mercedes production line?

When any other company falls on hard times they start lowering quality of their products and taking shortcuts while their competition eats up their market share, in Germany they help each other and instead of making worse cars they share their expertise and by no means start cutting corners. That's is so admirable

Benz for the win. Imagine if Porsche didn’t exist today!

I think thats cool how the German businesses helped each other out. In America that would never happen unless they were trying to save money on a transmission!
