Actually, this appears to be an MSI Prestige thing. Just Josh had two other Intel Arrow Lake laptops that got nowhere near as hot but his MSI Prestige also gpt similarly unacceptably hot.

A small correction. The Zenbook s16 has a TDP of 28w, with a boost up to 33w. The TDP was higher when originally released but they had to lower it via a BIOS update because of overheating.

It might be an MSI problem. Last year I bought 16 Prestige AI Studio with 185H+4070 and had to return it due to excessive heating. It was easily reaching 55 Celsius with lightroom.

I will suggest everyone just wait for Panther Lake-H, just few months and you will thank me later after Panther launches.

Panther Lake is using same architecture as Lunar Lake but using Intel 18A.

Intel also want to get rid of expensive TSMC N3B and horrible architecture of Arrow/Meteor Lake.

Panther Lake is very big overall and those who loved Lunar Lake will keep loving Panther Lake-H even more than Lunar Lake.

Arrow Lake LIFE is very short

My learning thorough the past five years:
1. If I need a work powerhouse, choose M series Mac
2. If I need a gaming machine, choose AMD

What the point to choose an expensive but mediocre intel machine?

Hi @matthew, I really liked the analysis you did in your videos. Can you help me? I need to buy a 2-in-1 laptop. Which one would you recommend?

Video Idea:
Testing a 50-series gaming laptop, connected via Thunderbolt 5 or USB4v2 (80Gbps) to a 4K 240Hz gaming monitor using a USB-C to DP 2.1 VESA DP80 certified cable, with DSC disabled. I found a cable listed by Club3D on the VESA website that is DP80 certfifed.

Also, the battery life is °falsified°. The Zenbook uses a battery of only 78Wh. Here, they've even installed a 100Wh battery to try to make the battery life seem acceptable. The power consumption and heat of laptops with AMD 370HX is much lower, 30 to 40% less power consumption during every workload than this power hog . Regarding performance, it should be noted that AMD also has the 375HX in the same range, which is slightly faster that the 370HX of Zenbook, but still with very low consumption. If someone want something that consumes like this Intel 285H, then it's even worse for Intel, because then the AMD 385, 390, and 395 come into play, which can be still configured at 55W and they have 8 to 16 cores (so 16 to 32 threads!) and iGPUs that Intel's integrated GPU can't even come close to, even in dreams...

What was the power profile that was used? If you changed it, how is it on the default, OOtB power profile?

All these CPUs can be configured to work at a wide range of power levels, so I wonder how well this CPU performs when the power is limited to 30 Watts. There is usually a diminishing return, so the performance may not decrease too much.

I know this is a workaround that the users are not expected to do, but it will give an indication of the efficiency of the processor. It's too bad that MSI pushes the power beyond what the chassis can handle.

How is the performance on battery vs plugged in? Does it drop performance on battery

I have a Zenbook 14 available here in the UK with Arrow Lake and was wondering whether to go for that or a S14 with Lunar Lake and you just made up my mind for me, thank you

Why are we comparing this to macbook air rather than the pros with m4 Or m4 pro chips? Aren't these chips for the higher power needs?
