It's fun being able to spot those common roots when you see them. I noticed that the Mahabharata description of the four Yugas is very similar to Hesiod's Ages of mankind, where with each age comes a decline of moral virtue and splendour. And in both cases, we are currently living in the most debased age, whereas the events of the Mahabharata and Iliad mark the end of the age that came just before when heroes still roamed the earth.

I find those examples of Greek influences on eastern cultures really interesting, I first stumbled upon it when I saw a picture of a sculpture group where Buddha was depicted and on his side you could see what definitely looked like Herakles! Greek culture mixed heavily with the many cultures in the east during the Seleucid empire and even forming their own new things out of it. One might say it was an early type of globalization!
