They should have looked around—at a guess—Sicily and Malta, and maybe less likely to produce results, but an area I'd like to see is the Aegean coast of Turkey where several very, very young white sharks have been caught. There's likely a nursery there. The suggestion of the eastern Med spawning ground is more than that—it's pretty well documented. Also, the world's largest documented Isurus oxyrhynchus, short-fin mako, is off the Turkish coast at the Med-Aegean confluence.

Absolutely ludicrous and who advised them?? They absolutely should have been around Lampedusa, Malta, Croatia. Anywhere but where they went. What a waste.

Another awesome video Kris. 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈
It is good that so many shark scientists are working together. That can help further shark science.

I completely agree with your concerns about Ocearch but I do have to say that I love their app

Ocean documentary series have slipped a long way since Jacques Cousteau. On a side note: a friend of mine who used to be a merchant seaman recently told me that the roughest seas were at The Bay of Biscay, which makes that location even more of an odd choice for this expedition.

Why didnt they just look off of the North African/Southern Italy area?

I’ve messaged them about why they just wouldn’t go to the Med (Sicily, Rimini etc.) They replied there is a whole series of Expeds planned.

If sharks have any sense, they will steer clear of the Gibraltar straights. Them orcas will be attacking the sharks' yachts for sure.
Too risky.

When I first heard that they were thinking of doing the Med and Uk I was excited but as soon as I saw where they were actually going I expected them to find no Whites. Like you say the Med is where to go and even that is going to be difficult . Given that there has been so much overfishing in teh med especially Sharks and Tuna I think its more important than ever to get Info on teh Med White sharks

Thanks for creating this video. As someone who follows OCEARCH, I was really excited to hear that they were coming to this part of the world, but as the expedition went on, I was getting more and more concerned about their route. I asked on their videos and on Instagram, but I never heard anything. I guess they have their reasons why they didn’t come here into the Mediterranean basin, but it seems like a wasted opportunity. As you said, though, maybe they’ll be back.

By the way, I hope you enjoyed your holiday and time off.
