In this video I compare two USB loads. One is passive with just two resistors. The other is active and also with cooling.

I just now find myself in need of a USB dummy load.
So here, years after you made this video it is STILL providing a great service !
Thanks for all you do!

Thank you for the video, I recently invested in a USB load tester that I use in combination with a UM25C USB meter to check USB cables and power banks.
The combination is helpful to ensure that I'm getting the most out of a USB power source.
USB power has become very commonplace in our homes, cars, camping etc., so it's nice to be able to test and get the most out of our USB devices.

Heartly thank you for your time. Just found you and watching your videos with one breath. Just want to let you know how your videos are educational for me.

Thanks for the comparison, I was never very comfortable with the simple version unit that I have here. At the bench I can use my electronic load but away from the bench it's nice to have a portable USB load and I'll be getting one of the active loads...thanks for sharing.

thank you so much for this! I was about to order the cheaper tester when I saw this. Now I'm ordering the newer design

Thank god you touched it! I didn't believed that was really hot

Thanks for video. I think you should disconnect the heat sink and apply some thermal conductive grease under the transistor, most likely, it is abscent there. Connect the heat sink, check tightening. Compare temperature.

Very good Youtube channel. I just bought a couple of ESP8266 and found your channel with very interesting videos.

Thanks, exactly what I wanted to know about the electronic load version.

Thanks a lot. I am going to get the transistor load and keep the 2 resistors load in the drawer. It is really dangerous and I used to put a big fan to keep it cool.

Very nice. ty. Just bought one. Very handy to have.
Can you do a video on that Flir camera attachment? Will it run on android tablet?

Great videos! Did you say the ambient temperature in your workshop was 30C today? A touch warm! :)

Nice video Andreas, thank you. Are those two the only ones you have? I can imagine that you have a collection of constant current electronic dummy loads.

You knew it was hot; why'd you touch it? Were you curious what the camera's idea of hot was?

I have the same electronic load module, but it arrived slightly damaged... the capacitor marked as C6 is broken off (on the board edge next to the op amp). It still works, but my guess is that the fan control hysteresis is affected, as that's the only thing I noticed that may not be working (fan turns on-off repeatedly when temp. is reached). Well, if that module originally had such a function at all ;) I was unable to find any schematics.

Do you happen to be able to measure that capacitor and tell me the value? I'd like to replace it. Thanks

Nice video. Just curious to know how much does the IR camera costs?
can you kindly provide the link from where you got it?

Which app you used to measure the temperature? Do you need any additional sensor? Thanks
