For months. All I heard was people say Nintendo has to just not mess this thing up and make a more powerful switch. Now, for months all I’m gonna hear ppl say is how Nintendo messed up by just
making more powerful switch.

"The switch 2 looks boring".

"The PS5 looks like a router"

The Xbox X looks like a fridge"

You can't win. Personally, I like the look of the switch 2. There's something stylish with a nice simple, clean look.

Nintendo took the “if it isn’t broke don’t fix it” approach.

One thing that is consistently impressed me over the life of the switch has been Nintendo’s pace when it comes to first party games and games that they publish.

Heck in 2024 alone they published 11 games. And most of them are smaller skill games that probably cost a fraction of what even they’re bigger games like Zelda cost to make. 11 games is crazy momentum for a system in its eighth year.

Their ability to keep a consistent pace and not ignore smaller scale titles I think has been at least a small part of what makes them so successful.

I don’t need 4K, nor do I think I will ever need 4K for Nintendo games. It’s always been about fun games over visual for me with Nintendo. I’d rather have a solid and smooth 60fps over 4K with better Joy-Cons.

I think it's also important to mention the backwards compatibility, sure the GBA, Wii, and Wii U had it but it's never been at a scale quite like this. Nintendo could easily capitalize on improvements to older games and if they effectively market something like that then customers could potentially see the Switch 2 as just a replacement no brainer purchase as opposed to something brand new.

The same people complaining about the switch be boring, are the same people that buy the new iPhones every year!

We are in a time that doesn’t revolve around graphics. Everything looks good so far. If it’s 499 or even 399 it’s going to sell. It can definitely be a primary device.

Third party support is key here. If they have the support of third party devs as well as the convenience of the Switch 1 plus it's own first party IP's, Switch 2 will do some serious damage.

I hope switch 2 doesn't have to boot into a second mode to play switch 1 games.

Nintendo took what made the Switch successful and improved it! In addition to adding a lot of QoL changes. THIS IS what most people were asking for and crying about for the past 8 years so imo no one have the right to complain. The Switch 2 is perfect in my eyes.

GTA 6 will be by far the biggest game in a long time, Nintendo is getting their next gen platform ready for the launch

Finally someone talking sense! The people crying that it isn't called the 'Super Nintendo Switch' clearly don't understand what's good for Nintendo, and to be honest they just need to grow up. Can you imagine how LAME that would look to the average casual consumer, seeing the word 'Super' just slapped on the next console's logo. That would be marketing suicide.
They also seem to be blind to the fact that this conservative approach will benefit THEM as gamers. As Jon is pointing out, the same Switch concept but with improved power will be very attractive to third parties, which will ultimately mean a very healthy line up of first and third party games, which will benefit the gamers as much as the publishers.
Nintendo fans are about to eat very well indeed.

The problem is that the suspense of a surprise has been ruined. I agree with Kamiya. Leakers need to have doodoo in their shoes.

First 5 years of Switch 2 is going to be a big catching up. We are going to get most of the AAA titles from Sony + Xbox from the last 15 years on the switch 2. Could totally see things like the God of War Collection, Fallout Collection, Mass Effect Collection, Halo Collection, Uncharted Collection, Last of Us, etc, etc, etc, on the switch 2.

"lack of creativity"

-big 8+ inch screen
-much larger joycons
-Magnetic Joycons
-hall effect joy sticks (most likely)
-mouse functioning joycons
-brand new, much more functional kickstand compared to the OG switch
-MUCH MUCH MUCH more powerful internals
-most likely an overhauled UI (WE HAVENT EVEN SEEN IT ON)
-super cool launch color scheme
-a new finish to the actual build of the console
- 2 USB C ports
- a new button that seems to be involved with a nintendo online functionality (i.e. campus)
- a redesigned dock

I probably missed a ton of stuff, but this console is so great its only missing one thing, even tho it hasnt been confirmed yet:

-OLED.

That will pretty much ruin it for me.

I definitely think having competent third-party ports that look close to the PS5 version on Switch 2 will get people to buy their third party games there.

The days of the NES/SNES, where Nintendo had the best first and third party games are about to return with a vengeance!

Switch 2 massive interest only in it's 2nd day of reveal. NOA Youtube reveal video already close to 18M views with 1M likes & 26K dislikes, that's huge. Japan Twitter 50M views, NOA Twitter 40M views. Crazy hype 👍👏

Exactly man. I do get the criticism that this reveal was underwhelming, but the thing is, this isn't really the "reveal-reveal" if you know what I mean. But it's also kinda crazy to me seeing some of the discussion on this amounting to "not innovative or creative enough, " when as a fan this is exactly what I've wanted them to do basically since year one of the OG Switch. I'll be the first one to criticize Nintendo for making mistakes or missteps, but this isn't a misstep for me, it's exactly what I want. We'll continue to get normal ass games that put gameplay first rather than weird control schemes, seemingly even better third party support than the original had, hardware capabilities that I think will end up impressing a lot of people, and, allegedly, hall effect joy sticks if we're to believe NextHandHeld's tear down of the system. I'm seeing a lot of people either miss the mark or not comprehend the graphical capabilities of this, underselling it based on what we know from the leaks and the Mario Kart gameplay not looking hugely different from 8.

Under the footage of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Steam Deck they showed off the other day (which looks really damn amazing honestly), I saw a lot of people thinking that there is "no way" Switch 2 could run that game at a stable frame rate. I've seen a lot of comments laughing at the prospect of this even being close to Steam Deck levels of power, and it's kinda funny just how wrong that estimation is. We're expecting the base handheld clocks here to actually come in over Steam Deck by a bit, and the docked clocks to come in around slightly less than twice as powerful as SD. This is before taking into account that Switch 2 will utilize DLSS. I really don't think that there's a reason to doubt the report from a week or two ago that a lot of developers are using Xbox Series S game versions to adapt onto Switch 2, or some of the games that Nate reported on last week. But I will admit, Flight Simulator being ported does sound pretty crazy. If that game is actually possible, though, I feel like that opens up so much potential.
