Today's "famous riff" is the funky main guitar riff to "What Would You Say" by the Dave Matthews Band.

This What Would You Say guitar lesson will break down this intricate groove based riff phrase by phrase.

On a technical level I would put this riff at about an intermediate level. It does move around at a fairly quick tempo but is also very repetitive.

My suggestion is to take your time and learn the riff in pieces like it is taught in the lesson video. After you can put it all together, it is then time to start working on the funky feel.

The feel itself is more difficult to recreate at slower tempos so you will notice that as you can play the riff more quickly the original funky groove of the riff will start to emerge and become more easy to do consistently.

Would like you to know I have learned several songs on the internet and I only go to you and another guy. Your presentation is perfect. Most people talk WAY too much, which I feel takes away from the music's language. I know everyone learns different but, for me, you are a great teacher! Keep it up.
Always keep intro to "Crazy on You" in my hip pocket when I want to impress. Wanted to learn how to play that for years. Thank you for the joy.

I did not like Dave Matthews Mouser teenager and he was around in the 1990s that everybody was into him and one of my best guitar buddies was but I just hated did not like it and I wasn't that smooth player back down anyways I was just your basic Hard Rock mainly metal back then. I would more more into Hard Rock and classic rock and that whole kind of thing has outgrown. Tell them like 43 I can listen to Matthews little bit and admit that he was pretty freaking talented and it really unusual guitar player which makes it very difficult for some people to learn.

Really nice lesson. But how can you use your index finger on the bas tones? Respect! I need the thumb in use when playing Dave Matthews tricky chords...
