'Эзир-Кара' - Tuvan Folk Song (Ezir-Kara)

Ezir-Kara was the name of a horse in the 30s that always came first in horse racing events, he was said to be the fastest horse in the history of Tuva. Coincidentally the owner of Ezir-Kara was arrested during the political repressions of the 30s, but the horse managed to escape, so the horse is seen as a symbol of Tuvan independence from tyranny

Tuva trying not to drop a banger, IMPOSSIBLE

There’s something beautiful about a song that essentially just boils down to “you should’ve seen how cool this horse was”. I hope Ezir-Kara knew how beloved it was.

I love how central asian music usually has the beat that sounds like a horse galloping

First time I heard this song, was on Spotify random suggestions while I was running. This shit made me fucking sprint the last lap of my 5 mile run, and now that I know what it's about it's even better.

I will never understand how a single small country reliably produces absolute bangers.

But I am not complaining, long live Tuva.

It’s so weird to get Mongol, Turkic and Russian vibes all from the same song. I love it

I find it amazing how diverse the cultures of the Earth are. And all of them have their own great songs with meaning to them. Thank you for Collecting all those and bringing them out into the World!👍

I just realised that almost every steppe-based music I’ve come across uses the same rhythm. Like the galloping of a horse.

Because sources are never posted in the descriptions, I did some digging and found the source of this particular recording. This is by the Marmota Band (旱獭乐队) and is off their self-titled debut album from 2017 as the leading track. The rest of the album and, of course, the rest of their music is fascinating. They are on Spotify, too, and are a great band as their purpose is to preserve folk music in and around Mongolia (they are a Mongolian band, even if the song itself is Tuvan) because of the risk of cultural loss over time in the frontier of the country.
