Isn't this the second hiker missing in Greece in as many weeks? The first was a doctor from the U.K. whom they found dead.

A "Seasoned Hiker" doesn't hike alone, especially if you're at an age where heart attack and heat stroke pose a high risk.

Sending hope and best wishes to the family that is going to Greece to
find this missing person, Albert.

Why are people hiking in the middle of a heat wave ? Either do it early in the morning or late in the evening. The trail is not going to disappear if you don't hike it during the middle of the day in a heat wave.

Why do people hike alone in dry heat like this with record breaking temperature s ? When u have dry air like in Greece with a breeze it's deceiving. With record heat wave temperature s occuing. Maybe he has been to this island many years but record heat wave should be a warning for him. Did he not see in the news the British doctor story?

Heat stroke happens super fast, one minute you can be find them you can get dizzy and pass out. With no one around your dead quickly in that aired dry heat of 100 plus.

Help your friends and family, we need 3-4 brains to survive today. People don't use them like they should.

So sad

Why are these old people hiking in triple digit heat over there??
He probably wouldn't do that in California, but I guess the pressure of spending money on a trip can make people do foolish things.

Another person missing in Greece! How awful. Pray he is found safe & healthy.

Very similar to Julian Sands. Underestimated the staggering heat on the island.

His level of experience and local knowledge of his environment make this incident highly suspicious. I hike in the desert often. One entrance to Joshua Tree is an hour from my house. I'm 58 years old. There are no "refreshment stands" where I hike. Frequently temperatures are over 100 degrees farenheit. My rule: at the trailhead by 7am, out by 11am. This is a function of water capacity in my 2.5L hydration pack, and temperature, which steadily climbs after sunrise. Usually in summer temps start at 84 degrees at sunrise. Even without water I could complete my hikes. Because I know where I'm going and I know my limits, as did the former sheriff. Possibly a medical condition came into play, but I would be very suspicious of this event. The most dangerous predator I fear while alone in Joshua Tree is homo sapiens.

I’ve surfed many places alone, Baja, Costa Rica etc… sometimes I had to hike. Lots of hiking, riding alone in the desert. It’s always a bit dangerous. He knew the risk. Hopefully it’s not a case like those fellas deceased recently down Baja way. Again, he knew the challenge and accepted it. Vaya con Dios

Even if he succumbed to heat, wouldn't his body have been found already? Unless heat makes some delirious, and prone to walking off a high cliff or similar!

I bet when his body is found it will be in an area that had been searched multiple will likely be found in or near coroner will have issues calculating a time of something happening

It's very sad, as it doesn't sound like he's still with us. He'll be found at some point; then we'll know what happened, whether a medical issue (pretty much what else could it have been?) or some sort of accident. At his age, he really *should* have gone with a partner. Maybe chalk that up to over-confidence.

He shouldve used an umbrella while hiking to block the suns rays and heat!
