Great review. I was a little put off on this by it being a handle lock instead of a deadbolt. But, I've got the same scenario in my garage where the door is warped and the deadbolt really can't be closed without pressing slightly on the door, so I've never put on a smart lock. But, the handle latch secures fine. This could be useful there. Deadbolt for long-term security. Handle latch for going to walk the dog and such.

having smart home devices require some proprietary app is another vulnerability just like the cloud... meaning if the company goes out of business... or if they decide they are no longer supporting Android version <blah> which you use... or whatever... your home devices could all of a sudden become useless. This is yet another thing we need to educate consumers about and push back on vendors on... thanks for bringing it up!

Pulled the trigger on this lock. Been waiting for the "right" lock for me and this seems to check the most boxes for me. This is my first Matter device and I do not have any hubs for any of the specific ecosystems. I just have Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT and Bluetooth stuff. How do I get this into HA? Do I have to have a hub, like the M3? Or one of the other matter hubs?

XiaoMi has smart locks with included deadbolts. When you close the door, the door locks. When you lift UP on the handle, the deadbolt manually engages. When you unlock the door and turn the handle downward, it engages the lock and deadbolt so YOUR force is retracting the deadbolt. This works great on sticky doors where there is a good gasket around the door to keep it well insulated. Problem is, its deadbolt is not like standard US deadbolts, so it's hard to make with with US doors. Wish someone made a smart US style lock and deadbolt combo that you manual engage and disengage AND didn't send all its data to some foreign (or local) cloud.

It has a "passage mode" if you enable passage mode then auto lock will be disabled.

Edit, haha, got to that part of the video now, earlier segments gave the impression you weren't aware of passage mode. Sawwwwy

Hmm I was able to connect it to HomeKit automatically without using Aqara, puls you can have the lock, lock automatically once you leave the house in apple automation

auto lock is a big NO for me. Yard work, and a detached shop means I leave a couple of doors unlocked all day while I am at home traveling between them. But is very good review, Thank you.
