BMW 5 Series review (2010 to 2016) | What Car?

With the right options, the BMW 5 Series strikes just the right balance between comfort, refinement and dynamic excellence. But, if you don't add the right options, the 5 Series is disappointing to drive. Those extras aren't cheap, either. Overall, it's a classy, spacious and refined executive saloon with low running costs and excellent engines. It's just a pity you need to add options to make the BMW 5 Series drive well.

Let us know what you think of the BMW 5 Series in the comments section below.

I've had mine for 7 years and covered 215000 miles. Still drives like new.

I've had my 5 series for 2 years with no reliability issues at all. Best car I've had by a mile.

The 3.0 diesels are as frugal as the 2.0d, my 535d does well in the fortys mpg at m way limits.Around mid thirtys around town isnt too bad either, the plus being the 300 bhp is all you need.

I bought an used one out of excitement and asking price. It’s a blast just moving around in the thing, my motorcycle has just been sat because I want to take the bimmer everywhere!

Well worth seeking one of these over a 3 series. Even the 520D is quite quick …

A useful and very good review, you should be on Top Gear with Evans

If you buy 520d, make sure it's after 2013 release. The pre-release until 2013 had engine problems. 2013-2017 models are very good

528i and 535i are better equipped and more refined than their Diesel counterpart. In Canada we are fan of the xdrive 4WD version for obvious reasons. Reliability is way better with petrol models too. Thank for the nice review mate. Cheers from Canada !

Worth adding electric mirrors, seats, boot and HK sound system it suits the car more

My 2018 BMW 530 required warranty repair after 8K miles, that said, these are cracking cars and worth paying more for extras

I love mine. I've had it for 3 years. We don't have them in diesel in the USA.
I have had to get ignition coils, battery, starter, belt tensioner, and an oil gasket that was leaking. Now, they say I will need a new radiator. They said it's a common problem with these cars.
