Scientists in Japan turn plastic waste into liquid fuel using catalyst

A team of Japanese researchers say they have found a way to convert plastic waste into liquid fuel. The scientists used a catalyst, by combining the metal, ruthenium with cerium dioxide, to break down the plastic under intense heat. Researchers claim that as much as 77 per cent of the plastic waste will be converted into liquid fuel and another 15 per cent becomes wax.

This is amazing, but what is the bi-product of using fuel made from plastics that will go into the atmosphere as waste? We may be swapping one problem for another by adding another chemical to the atmosphere

heating plastic into fuel is not a new thing actually, there's lot of factory turning old tire and plastic into diesel fuel right now usually with far inferior quality. we just have to wait if this new development make any economical sense for large scale operation or not.
