Moving into 2022 I have had a rethink on my cook kit for backpacking trips. I have tried to lighten the total weight of it while improving the functionality.
This is my Ultra-light Cook Kit on a budget for 2022 for hiking, backpacking and wild camping.

Looks like a great little setup there Dan. As you say, adding a Trangia to that makes for a one size fits all occasions! Be interested to see how you get on with the kit and if you need to tweak it at all. Good luck. Atb. Paul.

Nice set up!! Wind can make it very difficult for cooking. So these are great options to help with that. Very good. Thank you for sharing.

A very nice cook set there Dan, 99% of youtube gas campers seem to use top-can stoves or jetboil, remote stoves are great. If you get an adapter for it you can use very cheap cans in the warmer months 👍

That's a good setup Dan. I totally agree with the low-profile arrangement of the burner and gas bottle. Your popup cup is ideal but I just haven't done that yet - maybe you have now convinced me with this video. Yeah but - I do rather like my Trangia setup as you may well know ;) Cheers, Warren.

I’ve pretty much got the same setup except the stove is a Soto and I just use a universal pot stand for stability. It’s pretty much bombproof and light. Great review.

Dan👍👍 Excellent kit, very light weight. I think you'll need to anchor the windscreen to the ground when in use, I lost one of those Ti ones in a stiff breeze😢 The remote canister stove is a solid choice, low profile will certainly be helpful. Nicely done, thanks. Enjoy!

Looks a nice little setup that . I'm nearly always a trangia and or twigstove uer but for long hikes and hills it seems to make sense to cook with gas 🤪. Hoping to get to the hills once or twice this year and was considering the pocket rocket ( sounds dodgy 🤔) or the soto windmaster ( 🤔 so does that 😂) . Food for thought . Cheers Dan . 👍

Remote cannister stoves just make so much sense, lower c of g and much simpler to shield from the wind. I use the F Maple 117T most days ( think its the smaller brother of yours) and its been superb. I use the Toaks 550ml, small and very light but not as efficient as a wider pot.

G'day Dan, timely vid mate, been think'n along the same lines recently. I do love the Windwmaster, but a remote type unit does make a lotta sense.
Like that particular windshield design, as long as its not so light to get blown around itself I guess.
Dig the coffee cup too, I keep burning the hell out of my lips on metal mugs, lol.
Btw; have you ever come across a long handled folding spoon ? I could make one, but if there's one already out there, I'd be very keen to get it.
Cheers Duke.

Wicked little setup up liking that stove a lot, I’m at 175 g with BRS plus gas

I'm robbing all of your ideas here... been using the same system for years and I deffo need a 500ml cup in my life, also as much as I hate gas for the reasons you've stated this seems like a winner 🏆

I've also switched to Ti pot and spork - spendy but worth the weight savings. But I much prefer a camelbak system for water b/c you don't have to struggle to obtain it from a drinking tube fixed to your pack strap; however, digging in your bag and twisting off a knob to get water now seems like an unnecessary hassle. Keep trekkin.

i’m gonna get an odoland cook kit, can someone please check it out and tell me if it’s a good idea to just put the pot on straight fire if i need to? i dont know if it’s bad for the pot or will break it

This might be a stupid question but being new to all this I’ll ask anyway, if the wind up on the hills is strong enough to need a windshield to cook, then doesn’t that paper thin super lightweight sheet of titanium just blow away?

How often do you have to stake down the wind screen? I have one similar and the wind is always blowing it away.

How is it that the collapsible cup you linked is bigger than the pot you linked, but in the video, you put the cup inside the pot

The 100g gas can will be 200g+. 100g of gas + the weight of the can.
