The problem with buried treasure is you take the secret location to your grave, it wasn't just Pirates burning, Romans, Saxon, Persians and many more also did.

Pirates have very interesting stories. For instance Jamaica is about the only in the world where pirates actually ran a country. It was a compromise between the crown and the pirates for their help in defeating the Spanish Caribbean empire. The first governor of Jamaica was an ex pirate and privateer named Henry Morgan aka Blackbeard.

There's a lot of misconceptions about Pirates. If you want a relatively accurate source then I suggest watching Black Sails, it gets it's pirate lore right in terms of how they operated.

I read from historical documents that cavalry raiders continually bury their loot in history. Why not sea raiders wouldn't do that?

Most money would have gone towards maintaining the ship, rope and planking weren't cheap.

Real pirates were scary as fuck, if you think walking the plank is bad try having your large intestine nailed to a tree while you're still alive and being forced to walk around the tree until you die. Although I may have also read that in a book lmao
