Topping D30 Pro DAC Review & A30 Pro + D30 Pro Stack Thoughts

I traded my SMSL SU-9 in for the Topping D30Pro and was MUCH happier. The SU-9 was way too sibilant for me since I was coming from an iFi Audio iDSD BL. I'm running my D30Pro in to an Asgard 3 and think it's a marvelous combo. I also run the Topping D30Pro using the balanced jacks into an xDuoo MT-604 and think it's more amazing than the
Asgard 3.

Get a hold of Aune X7s amp and X8 Dac. A direct comparison between the x7s and asgard 3 would be very welcome.

For me, in Europe, the topping d30 pro / a30 pro are cheaper than the Modius/Magnius. Should I then take the topping, if cheaper?

What Topping drivers have you used? 5.12? 5.20 or 5.27? It was a great improvement (like a hardware upgrade) starting with 5.20. 5.27 is different, but not necessarily better than 5.20. Also, you have used the preamp or not? The preamp is not so good (compromise the sound). Finally, your review is more about Schiit Modius (US product), right?

Since I live in Europe, the choice was super easy for me.
Schiit is honestly completely out of touch with this world with its super limited availability and it's always unavailable.

I got the D30 pro recently to audition and the balanced output is around 9db lower than the unbalanced output. Weird.
It is too soft, and rolled off. Shame really.
Timbre is ok. Much better than the ESS chips.

When one of the highest members of a company states in interviews the only reason they don't put things like power switches/buttons, gain switches or other useful features of their products on the front of their units, "is because it pisses people off" so no they won't change it. That's enough for me to start looking elsewhere to spend my money...

A Modius and Asgard 3 stack was the first pile of Schiit I bought, replacing an Atom stack for me back in the day. Nice to see that the Modius still keeps on delivering even against new comers from much larger companies.

I mean, most people are praising Schiit, probably because they simply refuse to acknowledge the fact that we Chinese already can make plenty more stuff that's better than American "craftsmanship", and they simply wanna preserve the last bits of their American pride.
Or be simpler, they just prefer the less "scientific" sound from the far superior technicalities provided by topping/smsl, etc. so when they wanna sell the stuffs, they would just insist that Schiit stuff are "still better".
