Talking points: mindset, psychology, the shadow

If you've been following the show for a while, you'll know I'm a big Jung fan. You also don't have dive too deep into his work to find game-changing ideas of his. Here are 3 short yet sublime ideas of Jung's that you can reflect on—and maybe even execute on—pretty much right away.

(00:00:00) - Intro
(00:01:46) - “Who looks inside, dreams. Who looks outside, awakens.”
(00:06:00) - “I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.”
(00:10:12) - “Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual's conscious life, the blacker and denser it is.”

I love Carl Jung, and his work has truly been immortalized to support the world with his great influences! For a long time, his quote, “I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become” has motivated me to heal through a traumatic history. I appreciated your share and take on his words, Connor 🙏🏽

Loved the quotes and conversation, thank you.
Almost 26 years on from a spinal cord injury, #2 is big for me. April 17, 1998, was the worst day of my life, and the best day of my life. Extreme way to better yourself, but here I am.

I've been listening to your channel quite a bit lately. Thank you for what you do and what you put out. Carl Jung also helped me a lot. I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become is a powerful mindset. My dad killed himself four years ago, and I can honestly say I'm 10x the man now than before then. We all have the ability to overcome the worst things in life. And it starts with every action, every moment, one day at a time. Our choices matter, and there is nothing I find more repulsive than the modern meme of our poor choices being beyond our control and simply a matter of life circumstances and events outside ourself. Carl Jung is a boss. Thanks for the great video

"I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become." I'm going to mount that on my wall.

I went through a dark time in life a couple years ago and found my way to Jungian psychology and the concept of the shadow and it has changed my life. I appreciate your perspective. I couldn't agree more that introspection and shadow work are powerful concepts!

Great video as always👍🏻one part of it that gave me perspective was when you mentioned how “we can be bigger” than the events/trauma that we believe to be limiting. Because it is true, every now and then we all get the sense that we are not confined to our past, and on top of that, we are not limited to just our thoughts/beliefs, each one of us is more than that. We are all ever growing beings. I really appreciated the lesson on autonomy it is so crucial.

Surprised to catch this so quickly! A new viewer, I am. Your videos are quite concise, thank you for your work. I was quite partial to the last two quotes. Victimization is a big thing for people these days, myself undoubtedly included. And then the shadow work, I’ve heard its importance but to hear you say that’s where radical change really starts, well it’s a good kick.

Thanks much!

Thank you for all the work you put into your channel. This is another great video. It’s no wonder, I end up here every single day. Your videos have helped me immensely with my own traumas, to look inside and continue to strive to be a better man, husband and father.

Thanks a lot for this video 👏, the three quotes you used were greatly chosen!

All three quotes resonate with me on a fundamental level. I have been studying my inner self for years now and Jungs concepts and ideas are so helpful on a variety of levels.

One of my favourite books from Jung is "Man and his symbols". As someone who remembers dreams vividly, I find it fascinating to study the collective unconsciousness and how it relates to the symbols and images appearing in my dreams.

He - Carl Jung was ahead of his time and the things he says are for now which makes sense

Self awareness is big. I am separated from a covert narcissistic husband whom has noself awareness whatsoever, so they say. Hes not a good person and chose to abuse someone who had his back and to destroy that person on purpose. No accountability can you get out of him. Just denial, blameshifting and lies.

Fyi, there's a mistake in the first quote in the video description, it says "Who looks inside, dreams. Who looks outside, awakens."

I don't agree, why not go in and out... Ken Wilbers work influenced me a lot at one point in regards to that
