Winter is known as the fire season in Namibia. In towns, these fires mostly occur in informal settlements, while in rural areas, they affect grazed lands.

The Windhoek Fire Brigade and Emergency Services Department responded to 59 cases of fire outbreaks from the start of the year to June.
