She discusses the challenges for the country's tech sector with Yvonne Man on "Bloomberg: The China Show." Thorbecke's views are her own.

What is hindering AI progress in the West? Chinese nowadays are using Kling AI making all kinds of video, at the same time, where is Sora?😂

Advanced chips only provide an 'energy consumption advantage', not a GenAI/AI capability. 7nm vs 3nm chips are just one factor. Don't count China out lf this race. Censorship is really just associated with GenAI, not AI projects. 98% of DRAM for GenAI systems is manufactured in China, US restrictions could backlash.

What are you talking about ? China was already ahead with AI. I am using Chinese AI and they are way better and more features. It is very easy to filter AI output.

Last year Australian Strategic Policy Institute reported on the 44 major technologies in the world in 7 categories. China is the lead country in 37 of those major technologies. For AI, Computing and Intelligence category, China is the lead country in 7 of those, inlcuding 'Artificial Intelligence(AI) algorithms and hardware accelerators" Your bad Bloomberg.

Lets not pretend American AI tech isn't censoring their results. I once had ChatGPT get offended when I asked it for a simple baking recipe. But of course censoring results is only a problem when the Chinese are doing it.

Filtering specific named entities is easy. Censoring broad concepts like diversity is hard. If Catherine Thorbecke has trouble understanding what "woke" means, try google Gemini's famous "racially-diverse Nazis".

Who cares about chatbot AI. They're working on industry AI and we're working on chatbox. Do you see the difference? An AI driving a car is not going to talk politic with you.

I am pretty sure China is working on stuff way more important than chatbots...

Honestly China can’t catch up with the pace in terms of AI

their system carry too much Ancien régime values to let chatbot run properly, and that is on top of they don't even have enough chips to train the chatbots

The ban on semiconductor exports to China 🇨🇳 is one of the most important policy moves of *the century.*
- The Chinese regime is still trying to figure out *what is going on.*

That's why curbing China from AI technologies makes a lot of sense, *economically and morally.*

Majority of the people don’t want China products anymore, yeah cheap but it brakes down easy and fast, rather pay more and last long and better quality in the long run I save more

From Tibet, to Uyghurs, to pollutions, to real estate, and now excess production. China is good at innovating crisis.
