Now that we've taken a look at the nomenclature for alkanes, let's move on to alkenes: hydrocarbons with at least one double bond. In order to name alkenes, we will use the suffix "-ene"; we must specify where the double bond is occurring on the molecule by numbering the carbon chain so as to give the double bond occurring soonest; if there are substituents present, we must select the longest carbon chain containing the double bond; and we must give the double bond priority over alkyl/halogen. Once we cover all this, we'll do some practice with different examples of alkenes.
