AIM-260 JATM: America's 'Trump Card' Confronts Chinese PL-15 Pī Lì

Actual range of aim260 is 500km and there is another variant with a longer range. The US like to reduce the specs of their weapons to the public to keep the enemies confused until they are hit not like China and Russia. Like the new ATCAM missiles which actual range is 650kms with 3 variants that has even longer ranges.

The range of the PL-15 needs to be corrected from the Chinese claims. The actual engagement range is about 125 km unless you are flying an airliner type aircraft in which case the maximum engagement range is about 200 km maximum. Due to the Chinese quality control they vary in range. The NEZ is about 20-75/100 km for a fourth generation aircraft. The export version has even worse capabilities than the domestic versions. So these just like the Meteor missiles outclassed the PL-15 even in their prototype stage.

These missiles will ensure that by the time the Chinese government gets the missile up to specs it will be outclassed still because by than the next iteration will be in service. In combination with the F-15E(X), F-16, F-22 and F-35A it will outperform everything Chinese and Russian aircraft can put up against them. It can even intercept certain missiles the Russians Federation thinks is untouchable just like the newer iterations of the SM missiles.

Interesting information. A video of facts but no explanation of how the PL-15 or AIM-260 works. I'm glad the manufacturer finally got this missile finished, off the drawing board, & working.

Russia has no 5 gen airplanes. Su-57 is 4.5 gen at best.

The electronic devices were always an advantage of NATO. Europe developed Meteor to counter, meanwhile Russia improved its existing missiles. But China will try to challenge the products on the market. It may have some setbacks in the future, but will be able to improve its long range air to air missiles.

Can anybody answer something to me I don't understand about these long range missles?
Where is the point in always longer ranges for missiles, when most/all future aircraft are becoming stealthy, which requires jets to get much closer for a radar lock?

Chinese radar can detect us stealth jets from 400km let's be real. They are for non stealth jets. So we do need a upgrade so our 4th gen don't be vulnerable
