Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day! I wrote this spoken word poem because, in order for MLK's dream to be fulfilled, we must address colorblind racism, one of the nation's major forms of discrimination. On this channel, I share poetry, give writing and publishing tips, do breakdowns and analyses of poems, react to spoken word, discuss poetry theory, and review poetry collections/books/classes.

Who buys into this “re-education”. Colorblindness is a moral philosophy that MLK, himself, advocates for. The slight of hand in the perspective laid out in this video is that we do, in fact, ought to treat individuals along racial lines in order to correct past treatment. This isn’t a principled perspective.

Another thing to think about. America has a lot of brown people from Central America picking crops in hot California crop fields. Those people don't speak English, they don't know labor laws because they don't know English and also because their education is next to nothing, they are afraid to speak out on any unfairness while fearing deportation. How would that look if they were black? What is the difference between apples, oranges, nuts, tomatoes, etc. and cotton?

You seem like a good guy Youngblood. For me, it isn't about race, it is all about culture. So while I might not broadly like black people in America because of culture, I might love black people in the Caribbean because of culture. What I mean about culture is music, family, food and politics too. Because of culture, I feel 100% comfortable among black people in the Caribbean, my husband (East Indian) and me (Filipina) have been to parties where it is only us and 40 black people, all good, but because of culture we wouldn't feel the same at a party among black people in America. I've heard my aunt, who is a Republican, say she can see eye to eye with a black Republican, but not a black Democrat. She said she would date a black Republican, but not a black Democrat. I hope you can see that it mostly isn't about race. My husband's side of the family, when they celebrate a child's birthday or a family weddings, all involved are East Indians because of culture and language. The same goes for my family, we speak Tagalog and eat our kind of food and have a cultural background that everyone of our Filipino friends and family are familiar to so we tend to be friends with Filipinos. When my husband attends a Filipino event or party, he feels like an outsider because of language and food and culture which would be near same if he went to an event of mostly black Americans, but it doesn't mean he is racist, it just means he is in a place where he has nothing in common with anyone so he would likely not go to an event/party where most everyone are black Americans and if we're honest about it, he probably wouldn't be invited to such an event either.
So in your family Youngblood, when they get together, how many are there that aren't black?
I challenge you to instead of focusing on racism in America do it world wide and not just black vs. white. It is just too easy to say America is racist while ignoring everything outside of America. Is America more or less racist than #blank# ... insert a country in #blank#. In the Philippines, for example, they have whitening lotions and soaps, is this racism, are Filipinos more inclined to be racist than Americans? A lot of other countries also selling whitening soaps and lotions. Search Google with "whitening soap."

I have a feeling clinging to everyone is a racist in America is why Hispanics who don't broadly agree with that is why Hispanics have surpasses blacks in America in wealth and education.

Ffs would you watch a video of a white man constantly talking about white this and white that and blacks do this...stop separating and bring together. I watched a lot of your videos and was about to subscribe but 2 videos in a row I watched of you pushing away instead of trying to bring all people together as one the way mlk actually wanted it.
