Shingles happens when there's a reactivation of zoster which has been in dormant in the dorsal root ganglia and now travels back to the skin causing the inflammation (and irritation) of the sensory nerves there which leads to pain and tenderness. There is no such thing as inflammation of sensory nerves near the skin in sciatica and therefore no tenderness, only pain along the route of the nerve.

So Rabih was prolly right when at some point he said that inflammatory myelopathy could cause tenderness and compressive wouldnt. This broadly seems true.
