The COVID-19 pandemic has been unprecedented in its scale and impact. It has also had a disproportionate impact on vulnerable, diverse, and minority populations.

The are multiple reasons why these disparities have emerged, and absolutely no doubt that cross-cultural communication and care have been—and will be—essential to an effective response to both mitigate the damage of COVID-19 and create a safe and effective strategy for recovery.

Watch the recording of a live discussion of these issues by Dr. Joseph Betancourt, facilitated by Quality Interactions CEO Michele Courton Brown.

Quality Interactions Co-Founder Dr. Joseph Betancourt has led Mass General Brigham Health System and Massachusetts General Hospital's Equity and Community Health COVID Response, launched in early March 2020.

In this video, Dr. Betancourt addresses the following and more:
-Why did COVID-19 disproportionately impact vulnerable, diverse, and minority populations?
-What cross-cultural factors made the pandemic more damaging in specific communities?
-How was cross-cultural care and communication essential to an effective response?
-In what ways must we integrate cross-cultural care and communication efforts into the peri-COVID period and recovery phases, and address the next surge?
-How can we now make a better case for cross-cultural care and communication in healthcare?
-What key educational tools will be needed to strengthen our current and future response?
