They saw that if you place a bell in a vacuum chamber you cant hear it ring. Because there is no air particles to carry the particles. They wanted to figure out how can light move through "nothing", ie the vacuum of space. They assumed there may be an invisible ether that light propogates through.

And you can explain special relativity by looking at your own life experience. If you sit in a car moving at a constant speed of 1000 mph, if you sit inside the car its completly calm. You can toss a ball, pour drinks, jump up and down. But to someone standing at the side of road it looks like you are doing that stuff at 1000mph.

Couldn't you just take a plane at the same axis of the Earths spin with a stop watch and prove or disprove this. It just seems like BS to argue something you can prove or disprove. It seems like his is just saying some random stuff.
