Soviet schoolgirl Lyudmila Pavlichenko unwittingly discovered her shooting talent during a shooting game and in 1941 she joined the army despite her family's objections. Pavlichenko grew to become the best sniper in the Soviet Union, while she was seen by the Germans as a great threat to be eliminated at all costs. Lyudmila meets a man and falls in love. But it doesn't last long, and as the war passes, bad luck strikes again

Is this really supposed to be about Lyudmilla Pavlichenko? It bears little resemblance to her story. Her father was a locksmith, not an army officer. No mention is made (at least in this extract) of Pavlichenko's visits to Allied countries including the US. In fact, she was the first Soviet citizen to be invited to visit the White House where she struck up a friendship with Eleanor Roosevelt. They met again at Roosevelt's insistence in 1957 when she was visiting Moscow. And the name Mira? Where would that come from? It is a name in its own right, I have never heard it used as a nickname for Lyudmila (but then, I only have very little Russian); then ones I have heard are Lyuda and Mila.

Kate Quinn wrote a pretty good book based on her life called The Diamond Eye.

Humans are BORN TO LOVE . For humans to hate you have spend money and organize . History has shown this . This a GOOD sign .

These snipers are invaluable to their respective armies. Well, someone has to do it.

'The Diamond Eye' by Kate Quinn was a good read. Hardly needed the elaborate spy fantasy added into the middle of this true story.

Best sniper so far is Simo Häyhä
He took out 562 Soviet communist invaders
GOD bless your soul Simo

I find it hard to believe the claims of either side. Both the Germans and the Soviets engaged in propaganda. Also, the Soviets claimed their best sniper was Mikhail Surkov, with 702 alleged "kills."

Would've been a good idea to have the bolt closed on the rifle at start of clip.???

We should be thankful; we had Russia on the allied side or we may all be speaking German today. Germany Turning against Russia a country rich with petroleum to me makes no sense, especially when you consider their fighting force and winters which killed more Germans then bullets

There is this fascination with snipers and kill counts - the latter almost certainly wildly exagerated.

This is nothing more than a synopsis of a movie.

This rifle was still being used during Vietnam. Accuracy that made you pucker up!

I cannot nor will not condemn a person for protecting their country and way of life. I have some very negative thoughts about people who belittle folks who are defending the wimp's lives, children and way of life. War is horrible but living under the rule of Hitler or Putin is worse.
