The flat EQ that you use handicaps a lot of earbuds that otherwise might sound great. Earbuds all require a different Eq instead of arbitrarily using the same onall

Excellent review. And both are great choices.
The Cambridge Audio has great detail and staging. It also responds very well to EQing so you can increase base if you want. And it's cheaper.

I am aware that codecs aren’t to relevant, but keep in mind that your Samsung doesn’t support the highres codecs the m100 offer so letting them compete with the xm5 on ldac is somehow uneven. Maybe better codecs would have pushed the m100 over the line to win this battle, who knows… I also would prefer tests and comparisons with the og eartips respectively, because ear tips change sound. Anyway keep up the good work Ron!

The Sony's are tricky to eq because the more you increase certain frequencies the percentage of it decreases.

I've tested WF-100XM5 and my cambridge audio melomania 1 (so the old ones) sound better from all points of views, imo

Sir, what is the mobile phone mode you are using for the testing?

You make it a point to emphasize that you're playing the XM5's using LDAC, but then proceed to use a Samsung to listen to the M100s while using Deezer. With all the money you spend on earbuds and headphones, you should drop $300 on a RAZR 2023 to access Snapdragon Sound and AptX Lossless. Tidal HiFi is also only $11 for lossless quality.

Otherwise, you're intentionally gimping one device and not getting/giving a proper representation of an earbud's capability and potential sound quality.
