Yes, once you have configured the server you can then upload/download remotely over the net using an ftp client on a remote machine ie desktop, laptop or even a android device. To connect you would use the external ip of the server and it is relatively secure as long as your doing this over ssl/tls. Hope that helps!

21 is just the default for FTP...you can use any available port, just make sure you match it on your client. Moving to away from the default port is considered more secure, and makes it less obvious that the protocol in use is FTP.

Thanks for the nice tutorial. Is there any reason why it has to be port 21? Wouldn't it be more secure to change the port?

so after doing this setup can i access the files externally? as in for eg: im at the office and i want to access the site or files i upload on the filezilla FTP server. do i have to use the host computer, that is the servers' external ip address? and if so is that method secure?
