Pro-Ject Automat A1 Fully Automatic Turntable for Vinyl Lovers (Total Plug & Play!)

For anyone who has not gotten into vinyl because the idea of setting up or operating a turntable scared them, the Pro-Ject A1 will be the perfect solution. This is a true performance turntable that is fully Automatic, and incredibly easy to use. It will take great care of your records while delivering wonderful sound.

All past Automatic turntables had a mechanical component that added noise or friction to the system. The A1 uses a unique mechanism that totally disengages while the record is playing. This gives you the performance that has made Pro-Ject turntables famous and the ease of use of a fully Automatic turntable.

We can not imagine a turntable being any easier to set up than the A1. Everything is pre-adjusted so literally, all you have to do is unpack it, plug in the power cord and cables to your speakers or receiver and push play.

In my early days of purchasing stereo equipment. I owned both manual and automatic TTs. I enjoyed both types and saw benefits in both as well. Eventually I sold everything except for my Technics SL-QD3 which I purchased new in 1977. It has been a very dependable workhorse over time. As simple as it is, I enjoy the performance and the appearance of this little gem. I'm a musician(percussionist) and find the sound to be quite satisfying through my Bose 501s. I have flirted numerous times with the idea of purchasing another more expensive TT. That would also include the option of using a more premium cartridge/stylus. But I'm just not sure that the returns for the expense will really be worth it. My SL-QD3 has NEVER broken down and still looks BRAND NEW. If anything should happen to it, this Pro-Ject TT looks like a very strong candidate for my needs. Thanks for the video and excellent review!

I have a Dual CS-721 fully automatic turntable that I bought in 1978 and I absolutely love it. I don't like many automatic TT's, but once the automatic function does it's thing, the tonearm is disengaged mechanically from anything that will interfere with the tonearm. With that said, I know there are better TT's out there, but as picky as I am, when properly set up, it sounds pretty awesome. Glad to see this new Pro-Ject table.

This sounds great! An automatic turntable that doesn’t suck. I’m totally blind, and have been queueing records for 40 years, however as I’m getting older I’m finding this more difficult because I don’t have the stability of my hands. I have some very old friends in my Record collection and would very much like to be able to continue to play them. Shame about the lack of adjustability in the cartridge and so on, but maybe that is essential for an automatic. Anyway assuming these come to the UK, I’ll definitely be buying one. I currently use a dual fully automatic deck from the late 1970s, as I’ve never found anything to beat that. It’s a nightmare to work on though and it’s all precision engineering. Also because it’s idler drive, it has speed stability issues. Thanks project, you’re going to make an old man very happy!

The A1 is a relabled Rekkord F100P, which has its roots in the Dual CS415-2
F100 is the version without pre, while F110 derives from the CS455 with sub chassis.
Old wine in new skins.
So what you get is nothing more than a Dual

I'm still using my 40yo Pioneer PL-7 fully automatic TT and it sounds great and still works 100%.

Always big news when Pro-Ject launches a new table. My Dad had an automatic table back in the 80s and I loved how easy it was to play records.

t's great that Pro Ject has released an automatic turntable. However, I do not understand why such a serious company used an old arm mechanism module in its new A1 turntable, which has been manufactured by Dual for many years. After experience with this module used in the older CS series, Dual gave it up. The reasons for this were often broken switches for changing the speed of rotation of the platter and start stop switches. This was due to poor plastic and the component being made small and very soft at the point where the most user-generated stresses occur.

All of these newer "Made in Germany" turntables have an intense platter wobble. This model here as well, as you can clearly see in the video. Certainly the record itself isn't 100% plain but you can still see that the platter has a wobble to it, too! I had the same issue when I bought a Dual CS-455 a few years ago. To be honest, many newer turntables have this problem. Maybe you don't really hear that but it doesn't look great at all when the platter AND the vinyl is wobbling around like crazy. A little bit of wobble to the vinyl is okay but I don't accept wobbling platters. At least not when it's too much in my opinion.

Looks great. Hoping they come out with another version that is a little more robust and comes with the OM 20.

Oh my! What will they invent next, an automatic, multi stackable changer?!? Sacrilege. 😱 I have a Dual 1019 fully automatic stackable turntable and I love it. ❤️ This Pro-Ject looks really nice!

Thanks for the fair comparison of auto vs manual turntables. Does it have built-in systems for dealing with record size? How does it react to 10" records, 7" EPs that are 33 rpm, and 12" 45s? Does it make any sense to spend $200 to upgrade the stylus for this turntable? For $700 you'd have to really want the manual operation to stick with this turntable.

never had an issue with automatic turntables when the only medium you could get music on was vinyl..pretty much everyone back in the 70's had an automatic turntable..but back then it was all about just playing and enjoying the music
