A group of scientists just resurrected extinct molecules from Neanderthals using AI. Yeah. It's called "molecular de-extinction" and it's all very Jurassic Park. My question was: Why?? Here's the answer...

"Molecular de-extinction of ancient antimicrobial peptides enabled by machine learning"

Scientists: Why Not!

Imagine Cleo, Hank Green, and Vsauce Micheal were in a YouTube original science based series, that'd be so amazing!

My brain immediately thought up a Jurassic Park/Terminator crossover.

Antibiotic resistance is a huge fear of mine tbh

I’ve heard of another promising disease fighting strategy. Using viruses to fight bacteria. Viruses are already evolved to be good at fighting specific bacterias and bad at fighting everything else. Since they’ve been evolving along side each other, viruses will never stop being effective against bacteria, either.

Interesting idea, but it is like finding a needle in a haystack.

Best way to fix the issue of antibiotics not working is not taking them unnecessarily and finishing the course ur prescribed.

as a med lab scientist seing a lot of bacteria become resistant to strong antibiotics is alarming, and i hope that we can fix it soon

I mean maybe people could also take all their antibiotics when they’re prescribed. I told my mom that and she said “you don’t actually have to do that” then I explained why you do have to take them all and she literally said “oh well they’ll make new ones”. That’s what’s wrong with the world. They’re told (and even shown as she’s lived long enough to literally see the effect of penicillin misuse) something has horrible effects if done and they do it anyway. It’s ridiculous. I honestly can’t wait for that generation to be done running things so the next generation can actually try to make things better

I vividly remember reading an article saying we can practically use dirt for antibiotics a few years ago. I'm guessing that same tech is in the same place free energy is.

The reason we ended up with resistant strains is the OVERUSE of antibiotics because DRrs overprecribed them for sickness that didn't require them because their customers is patients demanded them....is there a solution to this????
