24v as a preference. Important to note that not only does your voltage drop numerically halve, because you're starting with a higher voltage your percentage voltage drop is a quarter of the percentage voltage drop which has a huge effect on the visible effects.

12V for short runs, 24V for long runs. Depends on how it is all switched too, sometimes 1 driver is enough, sometimes it may need switching for zones (Ie..under kitchen cupboards) good video fellas.

24v all the time for me .. copper trace thickness comes into play too, had some dodgy results from some reputable brands who use thinner traces, but can usually get away with long runs by injecting power at both ends

hey there, i have many strips of 12v leds, and wanted to know how they would be affected if run on 24v. you would think it would be safer despite having fewer leds that were powered

I was about to comment I think the difference is 12v 🤦🏻‍♂️ Gary beat me to it 😤

This a great video chaps . Helped me understand the differences between the two

To get around the issue of dimming on a long run, i have connected multiple supply wires at various points along the run, This way you get a consistent brightness, albeit a slightly less lux level throughout the run. At least to my eyes it was.

Is it possible to collect all power supplies for flat led strips in one panel or it will make issue with distance?
Shall we connect dc MCB at power supply output?

Nice.. BUT, when it comes to a Larger project, 24v is the way to go. The reason is answered with your initial equation. Notice that between 12v and 24v, the AMPS are doubled using 12v.. this requires heavier wire [copper], lugs, etc which can really add up in a larger project.

Voltage drop issues are best avoided by powering the strip from both ends at the same time.

hello

i need your help.
i have a DMX512 DECODER 32 channel with 8outs of RGBW+V where am connecting the strips. on this Decoder can i connect a led strip that is
WS2812B DC5V LED Strip RGB 1M 144 Pixels Smart Addressable Black PCB WS2812 IC Full Color ?
will it work?

thank you

Not on topic but. Cable groupings: I am running conduit between two switches so have runner from one to second. Return wire back to first switch to feed the lights. Is this two circuits or one circuit for the calculation? In this case am running two circuits in 25mm conduit and know that if the eight wires in the conduit only four will carry power at any time. But. Is that two circuits or four circuits for cable grouping? (0.8 or 0.65)

Hello, great video helped me understand more about led strip lights. Currently working on adding some underneath my kitchen cabinets but I will be cutting and adding wire to gap were light is unwanted nor needed. Now my question is, can I start the power supply in the middle of the run with a "T" to have a better distribution and basically have 2 ends.

What the difference between 12v and 24v LED strip ? Um the two numbers 😂 24 is totally different to 12 same as 12 is different to 6 😂 what a load of faff just to get some light?
Fantastic video guy’s as always 👍👍❤️

It it standard that 24v strip should be housed in aluminium channel if installed on woodwork?

I'm hoping to power a 2m LED strip using a bick boost convertor and a 3.7 lithium ion battery. The main issue I've run into using a 5V strip is the only the first few LEDs get any light. I suspect that I'd be better off using a 24V strip with 60 LEDs per m. Not an electrical engineer just trying to learn for a project

I have new LED UV 12 volt light strips. I cut off the power supply and wired it up to my 12 volt car battery. Now it doesn't work. What have I done?

Would a 12v strip be brighter if I dialed up the Voltage supply to 14, 15, or maybe higher?

12 will have less LEDs, the forward voltage to make it illuminate is approx 3v, so generally only 4 in series with 12v, then they use parallel connection of the series strings.
