Thanks a bunch, Jenuds for sharing this. This is actually very informative and useful for others. I feel sorry for your loss ...
That Big Capacitor in between the board acted as a battery and that must be disconnected whenever you do repair work like that. If your hubby tried to repair it while keeping the battery intact, that could create more short circuits and created more problems...
BTW, I used to play with these connections since my childhood, experimented with my Father's old Tape Recorder/Radio, with my pocket radio, walkman etc.
