Heat Distortion After Effects || Using Displacement Maps

Hey everyone! In this video I will quickly break down using displacement maps in After Effects to achieve one of the simplest of effects, heat distortion! Its a completely procedural effect driven by using a simple noise map that is all built in After Effects. Perfect tutorial for beginners! Lets get started!

just what I really needed. I watched another one but I am using a picture instead of a video so the other way didn't work (maybe it has to do with the effects and masks config the other way was missing). Anyway, thanks man!

Realistic heat displace will need a blurry effect as well mapped by the turbulences ! thanks :)

Hi. New to Adobe Effects and I seem to have gotten this to work. Thanks for the amazing tutorial. One issue I can't figure out is that my displacement seems to stop at approximately 1:09 into my video and all I'm left with is the offset turbulence. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?
