Orbea Rise First Look - The Lightest E Bike on the Market?

Hold on to your hats — this one is exciting. E bikes are becoming more and more refined. The Orbea Rise is no exception. Except, it’s unlike any other e bike to hit the market. What’s the big difference? For starters, it’s under 40 lbs. If that’s not enough for you, it’s quick, quiet, stealthy, and has looks that can kill. I sat down with Orbea Creative Director, Jordan Hukee, for a quick dive into what makes the Rise so unique. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.

* In the video, it was mentioned that the Rise has 65nm of peak torque. The correct number is 60nm.

This is EXACTLY the trend I’ve been hoping for with eBikes. I’m not ready for one yet, but I’d I were, I’d be all over this. Light and rides like a non eBike.

I own an Orbea Gain (the newer refreshed one) and the Rise just seems like the off road trail version of that in a sense. Light weight, not over powering, and is more normal bike than ebike which I love. I'm just patiently waiting for one of these to get back in stock.

Orbea really nailed it I think. I believe a lot of people do not like the idea of riding 50+ lb tanks, at least I don't. But a sub 40lb E bike that I can flick around more like a normal bike is much more what I would want to ride. At first I was thinking that the price was pretty out of line, but realistically is not as bad as I originally thought. The $7999 M10 build with full XT and Fox Factory 36 and DPX2 is about $1600 more than my regular bike's MSRP that came with mostly the same kit (although mine does have carbon cranks).

Kudos to Bikers Edge in Kaysville for once again leading the way. Having a great shop backing up a brand like this is critical to the future of lightweight e-bikes. I have a Giant Trance 2021 52 lb ebike and they are correct you can go too fast going uphill into a corner and have to brake, plus that feeling of it's dragging me up the hill especially if I waste battery on a turbo mode. On the downhill it can be a handful when there are serious ruts and you've got oversized components. I think the m20 would be the perfect cross country bike for the Wasatch where you may not go 40 50 miles but you do want a great workout at a ski resort where you're faced with some long downhills in the end. The overall upside for E mountain bike riders is that this brand is forcing other bike companies to come up with lower power options.

Nice bike! Chainstay is longer than the Levo sl - levo’s specs exactly align with the stumpjumper but this is respectable too!. And voltage is 36 vs levo’s, 48 so while this has more power theoretically the motor is less efficient than the Levo sl.

Whats that loud rattling when coasting downhill?

OMG this is amazing. Willier triestina will keep the weight crown with their 14kg ebike, but this looks just as great and has even more power. Really would love to own a light crosscountry emtb.

Finally, an ebike that doesn't look like an ebike. I want it

What do you mean by a 1.5 factor? Is that like saying you get 150% more of your own leg power from the motor? The Specialized Turbo Levo claims "4x you". That's a significant difference. Does the difference between 65 nm (Rise) and 90 nm (Levo) make that much of a difference?

Also I think some other reviews said it's 60 nm, but you said it's 65 nm. In fact, the Orbea website says 60 nm.

Isn't that what the Specialized Turbo SL is? This is great they want to make these lighter. Can they make them affordable?

Checked out thier website doesn't look like they sale just frames. Them selling frames might make it more approachable for non e-bike people to get into e bikes, the complete build price is a bit hard to commit. But if they are saying we don't need the e bike rated components I would really consider selling my frame and swapping my current components over. But this is the kind of e bike I would be looking for, lighter weight and not a crap ton of power. If this can get me doing 20+ miles after work every day and not needing a day or 2 for recovery im sold haha.

Is this trail, all mountain or just a cross country bike?

Great looking bike but way to expensive for a lower powered ebike, you only really get the weight saving for the top of the range model, which knocks it out the price park unfortunately.
