UBC MacLeod Renewal, completed 2022
Architect: Proscenium Architecture + Interiors Inc. and Teeple Architects
This project is a comprehensive renewal of UBC’s MacLeod Building, home to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE).
The renewal scope included extensive seismic upgrades to the existing concrete structure to exceed Building Code requirements, replacement of the existing envelope with an expressive precast concrete rainscreen assembly, new interior layout and finishes and upgraded mechanical and electrical systems. The design combines long-term operational resilience with fully reprogrammed interiors to support ECE / the Faculty of Applied Science’s future research, collaboration, and pedagogical priorities.
MacLeod’s sculptural façade features locally fabricated pre-cast concrete panels that preserve its heritage character by way of new contemporary expression.
