========= Screaming Eagles LYRICS ==========

Crack of the lightning splitting the ground
Thunder is sounding, artillery pounding
Wrath of the Nazis cast on Bastogne
Facing their forces alone

ALONE!
ALONE!

Sent from the skies jumped into the unknown
The march to Berlin has begun
Spearhead the charge surrounded by foes
Eagles are leading the way

France is still under enemy rule
Push, axis retreat

Thrown towards Arnhem a bitter defeat
They’re stretched out just one bridge too far
Turn of the tide, it’s breaking away
Losing momentum, retreat

Go to Bastogne, the crossroads must hold
Stand, alone in the cold

Crack of the lightning splitting the ground
Thunder is sounding, artillery pounding
Wrath of the Nazis cast on Bastogne
Facing their forces alone

ALONE!
ALONE!

Dig your own foxholes or dig your own Grave
The storm is about to begin
The siege has begun, there’s nowhere to run
Panzerkampfwagen emerge

Tanks and mortars are shaking the ground
Prey of man and machine

Crack of the lightning splitting the ground
Thunder is sounding, artillery pounding
Wrath of the Nazis cast on Bastogne
Facing their forces alone

Chill of the winter bite to the bone and Christmas is drawing near
Soldiers are freezing, the death toll increasing
They’re dying in their holes
There’s no surrender there’s no retreat, the Wehrmacht is drawing near
There’s no reinforcements they’re fighting all alone

Sent from the skies ended up in Bastogne
As easy, as hard as they get
Nazi command request and demand
Offer surrender – declined

Nuts! The generals word echo clear
Nuts! The Nazis shall hear

Crack of the lightning splitting the ground
Thunder is sounding, artillery pounding
Wrath of the Nazis cast on Bastogne
Facing their forces alone

Crack of the lightning splitting the ground
Thunder is sounding, artillery pounding
Wrath of the Nazis cast on Bastogne
Facing their forces alone

========= Historic Fact ==========

Men from the US 101st Airborne Division (the Screaming Eagles) were sent to defend Bastogne from approaching Nazi troops. With the town surrounded and cut off from supplies, they fought for seven days in the bitter cold before reinforcements arrived.

"We're paratroopers Lieutenant. We're supposed to be surrounded." - Richard Winters, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne. From HBO's Band of Brothers.

"To the German Commander, NUTS!"

There's just something about Coat of Arms and Screaming Eagles, probably the tempo, that makes them stand out from the rest of your songs. Easily my favorites!

My grandpa was 101st and in Bastogne. Awesome that you guys made a song about this. He survived to be 92 years old. Even got to be interviewed in a newspaper in Washington state about it.

"Hey Grandpa what was the worst Christmas present you ever got?"
"A bunch of sour Krauts."

Paratroopers, regardless of which country they fight for, are something else, fearsome and brave. One of my grandfather was a paratrooper. The man became paralyzed from the waist down after an accident, and everyday, without fail, he tried to get up and learn to walk again and again.

My great grandfather was a screamin eagle, 501st parachute infantry company, so this song really hits hard for me, thanks sabaton, you guys are legends

This is an amazing song! I have an uncle who served in the 101st Airborne but the Battle of Bastogne was before his time (he served during the later years of the Cold War). If I see him I will show him this song because he would enjoy a song about the most legendary battle his unit took part in and he loves rock-n-roll.

My great grandfather was a paratrooper of the 101st airborne division. This is a great way to honor him and the others.

Little fun fact, during world war 2 paratrooper drops had a bad habbit of going bad, troops would land far awya from their squads, platoons, even divisions due to the wind, nazi flak, or the plain being shot dow nadnd men being scattered as it went down. Many of these troops would find one another, behind enemy lins nad form their own groups nad begin marching their way to allied lines.. many were cuaght but even more managed to fight through or simply slip through german lines to the allies. Gotta respect their adaptability and pure tenacity to keep going when most people would batten down and try to hold out for support

Can we all take a moment to appreciate how terrifying the eagle at 1:57 is?

As many, including myself have said during their graduation ceremonies:

*We have pride in the Airborne, we never let it down!*

I almost went to bed.
Unfortunately my neighbors had.
Fortunately the nice police officers are Sabaton fans and let me finish writing this before they cart me away for blasting Sabaton at 2:00AM best disturbing the peace arrest ever!
